Hung out at plaza all day. TJ and I woke up at 8am and went down there, while Jason caught some sunrays on the balcony. JF didn't go to work and went to plaza instead. Lurker Lou! Attempted some backside flips, still can't do them. Pat Tremblay met up with us to skate... he kills it. Then we went to check out the new Van City skateshop with Tim, new ramp is gonna be sick. Went back to plaza after that for a bit before we went home... and JP Walker was there skating by himself.

TJ and Jason went to Kits beach this morning to catch some rays while I did some laundry. Then we headed down to Leeside to snap some photos, I took a few film shots too... I'll post those as soon as I get the roll developed. After having some fun there, we went over to Hastings Bowl to watch people shred!

Giver and Hopkins came over yesterday to go shoot some photos. We went to the yellow barriers, roommate Jason came along. Shot a few things there... and happened to capture Jason doing a WILLY GRIND! After that we went to Burger King and Giver went to drive over a curb, but wasn't going fast enough (it went up-hill then flat) and he scraped the entire bottom of his car going really slow... shoulda ramped it. Then we went downtown to go to Georgia Banks. On the way there Hopkins was doing a kickturn and his board went into some water, but he still managed to slay the bank with front tails until the security lady came out... she was on the phone with the cops, and he decided to tailslide it again with her standing in the photo (down below) TJ worked today, Jason and I went to Hastings and Leeside because he has never been before. He tweaked his ankle a bit at Leeside, I'm sure he'll be fine soon though.

Met up with David-Wayne Stevens, Majed Salem, Kurtis Day, Takeshi Yoshida, Aaron Fermill, Hermann Puschel, and Tony Casano at hot spot today, then we ventured downtown for some photos. It was a busy Saturday afternoon (people everywhere/security being dicks) but we managed to get two photos. After that Aaron and Takeshi were skating this hubba near Stanley Park, and a lady that lived in the building came out onto her balcony (with no pants on) to yell at us, and was calling the cops. They kept skating it though, and the lady finally gave up and went back inside... the cops didn't care.

Met up with Michael "Porkchop Sandwiches" Ray at plaza yesterday, then we headed down to Richmond to get some photos. I've never been there to skate before, so every spot was new to me. He skated everything we came across, did tricks I'll never do in my life, and he's only 13.

Had some Wildcat last night with TJ and Jason. Erin moved out today, so it's just the boys now. Shaved my head today, went to the bank, skated plaza a bit then went down to Army and Navy with TJ. Got a bunch of Sidekicks, and I saw strawberry wafers... I haven't had those in years, so I had to get them. I decided I'm going to stop putting "jessetaylor.ca" on my images from now on.
There is a contest coming up on May 3rd at Railslide skatepark in Port Coquitlam. Registration begins at 11am, and it's free to skate the contest. There's lots of sponsors: DGK Skateboards, Element Skateboards, Momentum Wheels, Independent Trucks, Spitfire Wheels, S & J Sales, Ultimate Distribution, WLRS Clothing, City of Port Coquitlam. Gonna be a good time!

Met up with JF yesterday. I landed a backside flip in 3 tries... and I've never tried that trick before in my life, stoked. We shot some photos then chilled at plaza. Met up with Buffalo, went to Strathcona skatepark (everyone was ripping hard) until it rained on us, then we chilled at his place. Adam Dufour came by, had some beers and they skated the miniramp in the garage. Good day.

Went to the Score on Davie on saturday for Leo's 29th birthday. We got there around 5, had some food and drinks, played Wii bowling on the TVs, then everyone started piling in for the UFC fight. Sam Stout was fighting and he's from London, Ontario... where I grew up, so I was stoked on him, and he won his match! Met lots of people and the cake was delicious. Yesterday Jason, Erin, and I went down to the beach to have some beers.
Then we went to the art gallery downtown... thousands of people were there for 420. Chaos.

It's 2:27am right now, just finished watching The Shining with TJ and Jason. Went down Hastings the other day with TJ to get some groceries, and copped this big box of strawberries for 4 bucks. I know a deal when I see one, and 4 bucks for 4 pounds of strawberries was one of them.
Went to plaza for a bit yesterday, skated with Julian, Tim, Andre, Takeshi, and I met Graeme Betts. Had some 7/11 hot dogs and then went to go take some photos. Haven't shot sequences in a little while, so I decided it was due time... here you go (click to see larger version):
Takeshi Yoshida, Frontside 5-0 Bigspin Out I got the idea for the sequence border from looking at old Transworld "Check Out" pages that are on my bedroom wall. While I was uploading the sequence to my computer I noticed Takeshi has a new dance move (sorry for the crappy gif):
Went to McDonald's after shooting photos and saw this on the way there:

Our landlord knocked on our door today and said they were checking the fire alarms with a specialist and TJ thought we had to leave the building like you had to do back in school, so we all went outside, waited a few minutes then found out we didn't have to leave at all...
I got a sequence ran in Transworld Japan (March 2009) of Takeshi, here's a crappy scan of the page (click to view larger version):
Here's a photo from April 7th that I never put up:

Went to Kishu Island for sushi today with TJ, haven't been there in ages... delicious. Then went down to plaza for a bit to skate and learn new tricks... didn't learn anything new and I fell a lot. Met up with Tim and his friend Blake there, played some games of skate, then we went to "the bench" in Thornton Park. When we were there I met Jay Delaney, he shoots photos too, and we nerded out on photography. Gonna go sit on the balcony and enjoy this fine weather.

As of yesterday, Eric Koston is not part of Lakai Footwear anymore... big news. http://www.lakai.com
Two days ago Boulevard Skateshop held the Step In The Arena contest at the Kerrisdale Arena

Competitor registration cost $20, they had lots of different obstacles, a good ol' fashioned jump ramp jam, a high ollie contest, and it was tons of fun!
Photo wise, it was really bad lighting in the arena, other photographers' flashes were going off at the same time (some shots have their flashes going off), I had to bare with ISO grain, shallower depths of focus, and slower shutters then I normally would use. Using 1.4 at a contest isn't very easy, had to manually focus and guess what trick they were doing for a different angle. All I own is manual powered flashes and I didn't want them in the way or to get hit, so I had to opt for the arena lighting. But I still captured the soul of the contest.
Here is some photos I took (click them to see the larger version):

Went to Bon's this morning with Erin, she left to go to Calgary for a week. Then I got a new camera bag, skateboard, wheels, bearings, and used trucks from Julian. TJ and I went down to plaza for a bit and now we're just chilling at home with Jay.

Yesterday was so nice outside. Took some photos with Adam Dufour, had beers on the beach with the sun going down, then chilled at his place and watched ULcity with some pizza. Also last month I entered a small photo contest that Tourism Burnaby held, I submitted the photo of Sam Hampton doing a back smith at Bonsor, and to my surprise my photo was selected winner ($50 Metrotown gift certificate!) Gonna go pick that up today and go ride around at Bonsor for a bit with TJ and Jay, then go to Hastings and Leeside because Jay hasn't seen either of them. Giver linked me to the Fourstar site today and they have a video on the main page and I'm lurking around in a few clips (taking photos) Check it out:

Thinking back on that day (and going back on old blog posts) that was my first day out with the fisheye when I first got it. I have learnt so much with photography since that day, and it was only last summer, I'm stoked.
Here is a shot I took that day of Eric Koston (on-camera flash, hah):

It's 16 degrees out, sunny, blue skies... and I found a 5 dollar bill on the sidewalk. Best day.

Push Skateboards held a game of skate on the 4th at Metrotown skatepark (Bonsor) in Burnaby. Lots of people came out, they held a BBQ, and it was tons of fun! I took some photos, here are some that I like:

I haven't posted in a while... so this post is going to be a nice long one. I had shot Adam Dufour doing a crook on this rail a while back, but the sky was very bland that day, so we wanted to go back for a reshoot with the sun going down to get those nice orange colours. We finally found a nice day and went back, it was a lot easier to setup this time, but it was really windy so I didn't want to use my flash stands. I put the flashes beside me on the ground on the edge of the sidewalk and whenever someone would walk past me they would be afraid to walk in my way so they would go around the flashes... but this one kid "accidentally" walked into one of them and kicked it... thankfully it still works. Here is the shot we got:
Adam Dufour, Backside Crook On March 6th (previous post) I had also shot film that day of Sam Hampton at Bonsor, I finally got it developed:
Sam Hampton, Backside Smith My elbow is almost 100% again so I decided to go snowboarding yesterday because I haven't been able to all season and it was really bumming me out... it's crazy how it can be 15 degrees in Vancouver while there is like 500cm of snow in the mountains. When I shot those backcountry shots of TJ I took a few film shots as well, here is one shot of me in waist deep powder:
There was so much more snow this time, it was insane, and it snowed another 30cm last night or something, but I'm too sore to go again today, so I decided to go chill at plaza today.
About two weeks ago Giver and I headed over to Adam Hopkins' house before we went to Kirkstone park as well as Seylynn, he has a small launch ramp so we had some fun on the sidewalk:
Adam Hopkins, Indy Nosebone I'm gonna go do laundry tonight because I have no clean socks... the worst.
Here is something I'm super stoked on today:
Ragdoll, Barefoot Backside Bluntslide ...crazy. (and no, I didn't shoot that, haha)
