Went back to the Mt. Seymour backcountry yesterday with TJ (wasn't pouring rain this time so we could actually shoot photos), it snowed 17cm overnight and the weather was calling for sun so we hitch-hiked there and then hiked down the mountain:
The snow was about waist deep but it wasn't too tiring hiking down... hiking back up was a different story. Lugging my heavy camera bag, shovel, snowboard, backpack, etc back up the mountain in pitch darkness took forever, and I can still feel it today. Here are some shots of TJ:

I took three flashes with me so I could finally shoot with more then two flashes, but then when I got there my third flash wasn't working... so I had to deal with what I had.
Weather Network lied about it being sunny, atleast it was clear out, last time we went it was so foggy we couldn't see 20 feet infront of us.
|
It's raining outside, and will be for a while:
Just got some coldshots at the liq store, and some bread from the grocery store with TJ... walked there and back in the rain, then we're gonna go to Seymour area tomorrow (weather pending) for some off-resort shooting.
Sold the Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 yesterday to Craigslist awesomeness and picked up two more Pocket Wizards:
Stoked to finally be able to shoot with more then two flashes!
|
Just woke up, gonna meet up with someone from Craigslist to sell my Canon 28mm f/2.8 in a bit, because I never use it. Here is another image from Feb 19th of Jordan Repin:

Weather has been amazing this week, sunny everyday with temperatures around 10 degrees. My elbow is starting to feel almost normal again... about time.
I tried to change a light bulb the other day because it was burnt out, and the light switch didn't have an on/off symbol on it, so I just assumed it was off. I tried to unscrew the light bulb, but it screwed out of the bottom metal part of the bulb... so that bottom piece was stuck into the fixture... I then got some pliers to break the metal piece out... while I was standing on the kitchen table, then finally got the new light bulb in. Thank god the light switch was off... I would have electrocuted myself.
I went and did laundry two days ago, there were two sketchy women doing their laundry there as well, the one women couldn't sit still (crackhead probably), they had their dog with them in the room and the laundromat owner wasn't too happy about that... then this man wearing all leather (pants included) comes running in trying to find one of them, starts swearing at the top of his lungs and tells the one women if she comes to his corner again he'll beat the **** out of her... they exchanged some nice words and he left after calling her a f'in crackhead. I'm just sitting there reading the newspaper waiting for my clothes to dry and that happened, I found it funny. Now we finally have clean towels, I washed all like 20 of them.
Yesterday morning me and TJ went down Hastings to look for this bakery he had been to before. We found it and we bought some fresh bread. Then he got a donair at the place on the corner. Pretty sure it was called Mr. Donair... super friendly owner. It's on the corner of Nanaimo and Hastings if you wanna go or something. Then we walked down the road a little and found this meat place, so we got some nice freshly sliced meat for our bread. Sandwich time. We then went home and I left shortly after to meet up with Jordan Repin in New Westminister to shoot some photos. We got 3 photos and I'll put them up randomly instead of all at once. When we were at the first spot this random white van rolled up with like 4 people in it (2 were hiding in the back), and the female driver asked us if "we needed anything". We were a little confused at what she wanted so we approached the van and she wanted to tell us about HIV and if we had any sexual questions for her... we could have taken it way out of hand, but we simply said no. She then gave us a bunch of condoms and a bag of food each... really random but we were hungry so it was good. I guess they go around looking for homeless people and hook them up or something.
We got 2 photos at that spot then we walked around looking for a rail or a set of stairs... until we found a nice 7 set with a couple of rails. It was in this really nice apartment area with a nice sunset view, here is a photo I took of Jordan Repin ollieing the set:
Jordan Repin, Ollie Jordan had hurt his hip a few days before, and it was really bugging him so he didn't want to try anything else. He wanted to go over the rail but his hip kept syking him out... so we'll go back soon.
While I was taking pictures at that spot I noticed a guy with a camera watching, I didn't take much notice of him at first, but then when me and Jordan were done shooting he came up to us and introduced himself and said he said he was trying to take a photo of me taking photos and gave me his business card. You can check out his website at Brian Noppe Photography. He was super friendly and was stoked on us shooting photos, and it was nice to meet him!
Then this morning I went down to Futureshop on Broadway because they have messed up my bill big time and they are charging me for stuff I shouldn't be paying... this has been going on since September, and frankly I'm getting sick of going back every month just to find out they haven't fixed my bill yet. She said it should be fixed this time, and that I'll have to wait 2 billing cycles (2 months), so I guess I'll find out soon.

Beth is in Vancouver! Beth, Erin, Giver, and Caroline randomly came over two days ago at 3am while TJ was sleeping and we went to Dennys. It was my first time ever going to Dennys... actually. Then I woke up at 8am or so and me and TJ went to North Van to see if there was snow at this one rail we had seen months ago, we only went with a shovel to make the jump, and then after TJ made the jump we decided to go back home to get his snowboard and then mission back to North Van... but by the time we got back the second time the sun had gone down and it was impossible to see... so he set up this construction barrier for some Bradshaw gaps on almost flat ground... here's a photo:
It was literally pitch black out, and the snow turned to ice... I had to manually focus the shot, and I couldn't even tell where the barrier was looking through the viewfinder, so it was all guessing... with numb fingers. We're both stoked on the shot, because it's the first time I've been able to take photos of him snowboarding this year (dislocated elbow last month)... so there will be lots more soon.
Then last night I went over to Erin's parent's place downtown (really nice apartment with an amazing view)... Beth and Erin's sister Laura were there (first time meeting Laura) and we watched the Food Network for a bit and ate some chocolate zucchini bread that they had made... it was really good. Then we went out for a beer (or in their case caesars) at Doolins Irish Pub on Nelson and Granville... but we were all pretty tired so we left early.
Then this morning TJ's friend called me (TJ doesn't have a phone) pretty early and TJ was at home (I wasn't) so I had to get home so he could talk to him... they wanted to go shred Seymour today... so I bussed it back home and now TJ is out riding while I'm thinking what I should do with my day... probably go take photos somewhere. Haven't had much sleep lately, gonna catch up on that tonight.

Just woke up to TJ's alarm clock, I've been waking up early lately anyways, which is a good change. Erin is staying at her parent's condo for a week or so, and TJ will be working lots, so I think I'm going to go out for some photo adventures this week. I'm gonna go back to physio on Monday I think to see how the elbow is doing, it's feeling a lot better than before. Nice clear day today, usually it's cloudy around the mountains and I can never see them, looks like it's been snowing up there a bit... Not much to say in this post, so here's a photo I took a while back at Wakestock in Toronto (cellphone amazingness):

Elbow is starting to get a lot better, can't make it fully straight yet, but I'm almost there. Just got some groceries at Army & Navy, they had a sale today... saw this comforter for $20... I had to get it:

So when that hot water guy came last time, he changed the thermostat in the hot water tank, and he said it was good to go... we waited all night, and there was still no hot water, so I had to call him back yesterday, he came in and told me the tank would need to be replaced. The landlord is in China and his family doesn't speak english... at all, so I had to talk to his wife's son to translate to them, and I had to call General Electric and Home Depot about a million times to relay messages to them and we finally got a new tank under warranty... but I guess Home Depot raised their prices on the tanks so it cost them pretty much the same price as a new one for the difference... not my problem. So they just finished taking out the old one and installed the new one. Just have to wait for it to fill up and heat up now, and I'm going to have the best shower of my life.
I didn't end up going to the Mind Field premiere last night because I had to deal with the phone calls for the hot water tank and I didn't have a ticket, so I didn't wanna go down there just to find out I couldn't get in or something... but turns out a lot of people got in anyways and it was a sick movie... sucks for me. Erin is out applying for jobs right now and TJ is sportchekin' it, and I'm doing the usual... nothing. I'm feeling kind of sick with the sore throat, hopefully it goes away soon.

Went to physio this morning, arm feels so much better now, but still gonna take some time for it to be back to normal... still can't make it straight. The hot water guy just left, and he worked some magic on the hot water tank... I'm going to have the longest shower ever tonight, cold water was not fun. The Alien Workshop "Mind Field" premiere is tomorrow at Tinseltown, gonna be a good one. Here's the poster for it (click on it for bigger version):

Hot water tank is being fixed tomorrow, finally. It was a nice day out... opened the windows, turned off the heat, got some groceries, went to the bank, and helped Erin look for a job, but we failed at that. I'm going to physio in the morning for my elbow. I'll be back to taking photos in no time. Stoked.
